Pinon shaft loose and leaking. Bad bearing and seal??

Pinon shaft loose and leaking. Bad bearing and seal??
Front high pinion D-30 on 2K1 XJ
The pinon shaft has a little play, so little that you can barely notice it by moving it up and down by had, but you can definitely feel and hear it. It also seems to have a little more than usual rotation play.
Also I noticed leaking from the seal. Sometimes a fresh leak, sometimes no leak at all.
So I was just wandering if the above deal should be replaced or is that normal??

The rotational play can be caused by bad u- joints at the hubs. Some is normal as the backlash allows a little. Lateral play is not good.
