(photo) Is this the correct PCM?! 96 XJ 4.0 4x4
My OBD1 (not 2) 96 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4x4 4.0 automatic has been giving me the same issue for years, It was even looked at, in March at my local Chrysler Jeep dealership only for them to charge me nothing ( Thankfully!) and tell me they could not detect where the issue is coming from.
You name the part and it's been replaced with Brand New Mopar parts (pricey as heck!) only for the issue to persist.
It dies at every stop. If you don't throw it in neutral or keep your foot on the gas and the brake while stopped it will die.
I decided to take the pcm out today to clean the contacts (and was going to open it up and clean the inside but I cannot get it open) anyhow, I googled the part number on my pcm and it doesn't show it as compatible with my year jeep.
Maybe I am reading into it, but am I crazy ? Is this the correct pcm or not for my Jeep?
If this is the wrong pcm, Does anyone know what the correct pcm part # is for my 96 XJ 4.0l auto?
All help would be appreciated.
Thanks

This is the sticker on my pcm, my Jeep is a 96 Cherokee 4.0l 4x4 Automatic.
This pcm shows up as being for a 97-2001.
My Jeep is part of the split year, the year the first half of the year built 96's were OBD I the second half were obd2, mine is the first half of the year, OBD 1

From what I can see it looks like a JTEC ECU. Can you snap a pic of the engine harness on the driver side between the brake reservoir and the ecu? Let's see if it has a obd1 dataport. Take a pic under the driver side kick panel.
Auto or manual?

You can call the dealership and with your VIN they can look up the correct PCM part number for you. A P.O. of my 95 put an incorrect PCM in mine as well, so it happens more often than you'd think.
