Default Parts Notice and shout out....'88 2.5, please read.

I've been looking for better than 1.5 years for engine mount brackets, AC compressor bracket, and alt brackets.

I finally found an '87 in a junk yard two hours away last week but it had no AC so I only got the engine mount brackets.

I'm still looking for the AC and Alt brackets.

Point of my post?

Now that I've found the engine mounts, I'm now pursuing with vigor the remaining parts. I've searched a 400 mile radius of all JYs and CL, basically the SE......none to be found, notta.

Below is the only original AMC 2.5 thermo housing I have seen besides the one on my truck, so I snagged that last week too.

For us 80s guys, particularly for us 2.5 80s guys, parts are none existent for year specific MJs and XJs.......Renix era.

Please reconsider before you scrap anymore XJs or MJs, be concerned with parts that are no longer available.

If anyone has a 2.5 for parts please let me know.

I have the brackets on my truck but my objective is to have my build complete prior to the swap, most of my time needs to be spent on the engine bay and not the engine itself.

Thanks

Due to computer issues, (reformatting your drive every few day's is not handy for finding files). (got it though, I think, $41 computer now working)

Here is a the link for all of Crags list if that might help. Also on a thumb drive somewhere I have the link to "Only Jeep Parts", or something like that...

Oh, and I have a complete running 84 here with a 2.5 and AC, non oped for years. Not parting though. It would take a grand for me to re think.

OK, that was right > http://onlyjeepparts.com/

Maybe let us know if they had it.

Question

Why wouldn't you just go with the Brown Dog motor mounts? As a 2.5l guy I know the pain but stock mounts are garbage and brown dog makes 'em for your '88 2.5l. I have the rubber ones on mine and they are SO much better.

Also HOLY ROCKER ARMS BATMAN those are some sick rocker arms! Where can I grab a pair of those?

I'm new to the XJ world, so please don't take this as an insult. Honest curiosity. Why put that kind of money into a 4 cylinder? Wouldn't it be cheaper/easier to drop the 4.0l into it? More power too? What is the advantage to the 4 cylinder?

Gas mileage is always nice. Also not everyone wants to swap an engine and transmission.

But OP is in process of swapping an engine, so that argument doesn't hold. What kind of gas mileage difference are we talking? I checked mileage on my 90 4.0l w/ 33s and 4.10 gears: 13.4 mpg. Hoping a tune up will get it closer to 16-18 mpg as it is running a bit rough.

Dude. Changing basically everything over is far from easy and not worth the swap. If you want a 4.0, buy a Jeep with it in it. The 2.5l is what the 4.0l is based off of, and is an underated Jeep engine. The weight of a fully dressed 4.0l isn't very desirable as well.

It's a Jeep, it's not about HP or torque, its about reliability and simplicity. If it works, don't fix it. Easy as that lol. Always get people saying "the 4.0l should pop right in." And that's how you can tell who's actually done and engine swap and knows how hard it is.

Here's an article to help you out:

Short answer- I root for the underdog.

It came 2.5 and it stays 2.5.

If I were to swap to another.......would have been SBC for sure.

I expect to see 22-23mpg, I'm now getting 19-20.

BTW.........

I sourced parts from two locations.

One is an individual, $35 and I take off but will be an 8 hour round trip.

The other is a salvage yard, $125 shipped.

The individual is near the OH line.........**** drive............I'm patient though, we'll see.

I'm curious, did you call "only Jeep Parts? I've never used them, but their page makes them look worth a call.

I had no problem parking my 2.5 when I got a 4.0. No more down shifting into 3'rd and floorboarding it to keep a legal 45 MPH on Hwy 101, pulling a hill with 500 Lbs of tools, (and nearly 300 Lbs of me), getting maybe 16. (84 with a carb). Sailing at 60+, the 90, 4.0 well clears 20 MPG, up to nearly 24. Sort of not fair though. A not optimized, carbed engine verses a fuel injected 4.0, pretty much perfect with all that CF and Cruiser has provided.

The 2.5 is an excellent engine and has it's place. Call that one a Jeep and not a truck. Spark one, put it in low range, smile!
