"part time" light stays on...
even though its out of 4wd. been in and out of 4w for the past couple of wks and the PT light has stayed on a few times. what could be the cause of this? linkage needs readjusting? sticky switch of some sort? its out of 4w for sure. seems if i drive a good distance, like to work (50+miles) and i play with the lever it goes off. just changed the TC oil last yr. maybe 12k miles or so. :help:

Well when it stays on, how long does it stay on? Also how do you switch out of 4x4?
|
it will stay on till i play with the 4wd lever. i go form 2 - 4 in park then drive about 20ft in rev and back to dr. i can hear the TC clunk out of 4 and back into 2w.

Sounds like the lever might be stuck or might be taking longer for yurs to get out of 4wd
I haven't had it in 4WD for a month and my dash light still says I'm in 4WD part time. AND yes I do know when it's 2WD and when it isn't. You can't drive one of these longer than 2 weeks without figuring that out. What I and the OP would like to know is: Is there an adjustment for the switch somewhere? Is the switch worn out and needs replacing? Is the switch on the interior lever or the transfer case? and yes it does matter what the dash light says. To me anyways. |
Try cleaning the switch located on the top of the tranfer case first.

 It's located on the front of the case near where the case mates with the transmission. It doesn't have any adjustment |
after some further research ive found that a bad switch or dirty switch as others mentioned is usually the case. how does the switch come out? is it screwed in or just like a wire harness type thingy??
thanks all will report back when looked at more! :thumbup1: |
