Question Part time light

So m 4 wheel drive works incredibly. but my part time light doesnt come on. is it worth ripping apart my dash to replace a tiny little bulb?

Don't tear dash apart until you do this test, crawl under drivers side of jeep, there are 2-3 sensors on the transfer case look for the one up on top, it has 2 wires when you find it unhook it and take a paperclip and connect both prongs together with paperclip. Now go and just turn your ignition on, and if its the switch underneith the light will light up,if not then your bulb is bad. If its the switch it takes a 7/8 wrench to remove, the switch is like 6 bucks, hope this helps.

Do yourself a favor and check that its not just a bad connection. I replaced the switch on mine also as it tested bad, no continuity between the two pints on the connector when you push on the ball bearing.

I replaced the switch with a new one from NAPA and the light still didnt work, tested the bulb by using a paperclip between the two pins on the connector and the 4x4 light came on. So i wiggled the connector and it worked, so it was just a poor connection. I had to tweak (crush the pin slightly) the pins on the new connector a little so they fit tighter on the car harness, everything works as it should now.

If it is the bulb it only takes about 10-15 minutes to replace. At least this is true on my 92.

there is a dash board light test you can do....i'm not 100% sure that it will check the "part-time" light tho.... hold down the trip odometer reset button....the turn key to "on" position and you will see all the gauges and lights run thru a test mode....hope this helps

I will have to try the trip test, I never heard of doing that, although I know all my dash lights work.

his is a 91, it doesnt do that.

Take the plug off teh top of the tc, jump the 2 pins together and turn the key on. If the light comes on, you simply have a bad switch. If it does not come on, you need to look for shorts or change your lightbulb.
