Painting Question

Have any of you guys ever painted your grill and headlight bezels? I'm gonna paint mine today and I'm wondering if I should go with a regular gloss or a semi-gloss. My jeep has good pain on it and the grill and bezels look worn in comparison. thanks.

i would get some of that high temp paint for the grille because my friend painted his grille and now its flaking a few months later. the headlights shoudnt need it but the grill probably does.

yea i just used some rustoleum primer and then some gloss paint. i painted them black when they used to be gray cause that was the color of my jeep. my old 88 was white and had black grille and head light bezels, so i did the same thing on y 94 and i think it looks 10 times better. so feel free to paint them. oh and on the gloss/semi-gloss question, it matters how good the rest of your paint job is, but i would go with semi-gloss cause, hey, its a jeep after all!

I myself would paint it to match, the rest of the car. A paint shop could make you a couple of spray bombs. Get the side mirror housings also. JMO!

Just make sure you prep the items you are gonna spray. The guy who said his friend's grille is flaking probably didn't prep correctly. You should not have to use high temp paint, its not a high temp or high stress area. If you sand every nook and crack, which is really hard, and you clean very well, it won't flake. Make sure you use quality clear after, otherwise the clear will flake.

best advice? sand the crap out of it to roughen the paint that's there, and use a spray paint made for adhering to plastics (someone mentioned krylon fusion = good one)

and this.

make sure you clean well after sanding, too. painting over dust isn't a good idea either.

I just painted my whole jeep with bed liner aside from the chrome pieces and painted my trim/badges neon green, looks sick! Just make sure you prep it right i spent a week sanding and cleaning before i even bought any paint... And some spots still need touched up. if your planning on matching your paint to the front end i would get high gloss black, i painted my spoiler on my camaro semi-gloss and you can tell that its not as shiny, if i would have used high gloss no one would know its not factory :] just my .02

scuff it up with a green scotchbrite pad and wash it with soapy water then use satin black krylon fusion
