Need to get emissions done on my jeep in the next 20 days.

It's throwing a P0455 code for "Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (gross leak/no flow".

Any tips for dealing with this code? Is that the fuel system in this jeep or is that a vacuum related thing?

Gross leak? First thing to check is the gas cap.

Yo Hudson! What's up man? First thing I would check, is the lines coming from the evap canister that's located underneath your Jeep in the rear. Should be 3 hoses coming out of a square box. I'm dealing with this right now--the line coming from the fuel tank to the canister was completely rusted. The rubber connecting the lines is also rotted. Check this area good, because any leaks here will throw that code to ya.

That's probably it.

I bought 25' of 5/16" tubing to replace my fuel line as it appeared super rusty. When I got looking at it I realized that the line went from the top of the gas tank into that square box. It's rusty as hell. I had no idea what that line was.

What does that line even do?

lol, exactly what mine looked like. I thought my rust was bad! My line broke in half pretty quickly when I went to remove it. I also got a section of 5/16" fuel-rated hose to replace this. Unfortunately, when I was removing this one, I pulled the rubber hose on the fuel pump side right out, and I'm pretty sure I have to drop the tank to fix it. That's okay because I'm doing my fuel pump then anyways. But if you don't want to drop your tank, I advise using caution on the fuel pump side where the metal line ends.

From what I understand, only vapors from the fuel tank travel through this line and then the vapors are stored in the canister.

In the background, upper right corner, you can see the plastic line with the rubber grommet. that's what I accidentally pulled off of the fuel pump.

Thank you.

Another question.

You see where my rusty lines goes towards my fuel pump and into that rubber sleeve? I don't think there's a flare coupling or anything like that in there. How does that metal line attach to what appears to be a rubber line?

There is a flare at the end of the metal line where the rubber sleeve goes over it. That's it. I'd take a pic but I already threw mine out.

Also, for the record, I've been driving around without that line in at all, and I STILL haven't got a CEL or any running issues. It might be because my tank is real low on gas. I'm just waiting for my new fuel pump to arrive before putting the new hose on.

Alright that makes sense. Probably one of these bell flare doohickeys. I'll probably just flare my new one and hose clamp it on if i feel that needed.

Oh, and do you know if this is a 3/16" or 1/4" or 5/16" line? I can't tell. Mine is so rusty i think it staqrted off as like a 5/16" but rusted down to 3/16". Hahaha.

Is the connection on the other side of that line (where it goes into the evap canister) the same thing? rubber sleeve slipped over a flare?

Oh jesus. I'm just trying to get my CEL off for emissions or else i wouldn't be worrying about it at all. I might grab the gas cap off of my other jeep and put that on and see if that fixes my problem.

You could always pop the bulb out of the dash.

I noticed that metal line going from my gas tank to my EVAP canister also looks just as rusted if not worse than the one in your pics. I am going to get some 5/16 fuel tubing like mentioned to fix this.

How did you attach the new 5/16 hose to each end? Do you pull the rubber sleeve off each end that the metal line connected into and then slip the 5/16" hose over the fitting on both ends that already there and use a screw tight style hose clamp?

*Edit* Well I went out this morning and that metal line from the gas tank to EVAP canister is literally cracking apart in my hands when I picked at it, definitely replacing this first to see if its the reason for the P0455 EVAP leak. Should 5/16" ID fuel hose, some brass 5/16" hose splicer barbs for each end and some 5/16" hose clamps work for this?
