Default P0201 Problem

Ok, so after dealing with this problem for the last 3 days, I am finally going to ask for help. Here is what I am dealing with. A week ago I began to swap my cracked exhaust manifold on my 96 Xj Auto, everything went fine. Finally got it all put back together, started up and no leaks, drove it around the block then parked it for the night.

The next morning I left for work and it ran fine all the way there (10 minute drive), when I started it up for lunch that is when the problem began. Really rough running and immediate CEL, so I took it to Auto zone and they told me P0201. I did some quick research and found out that it was a #1 injector problem, popped the hood and started looking at the electrical connection on #1. I found that some how the 2 wires for that connector were bare and touching, so I separated them and taped them up for the time being. Still ran rough, when I got home I did some trouble shooting.

With the engine running, I pulled the electrical connection on #1 and no change in the rough idle. Next with #1 off, I pulled #2 and the idle got worse. I then put #2 connector on the #1 injector and the really rough idle calmed down to just a rough idle. So I know at this point that #1 injector is firing. With the engine still running and both connectors 1 and 2 off, I plugged #1 electrical connector into injector #2 and there was no change in the really rough running.

Just to ensure there was no major internal problems I ran a compression test here are the results:
Cylinder 1- 145
Cylinder 2- 143
Cylinder 3- 125
Cylinder 4- 140
Cylinder 5- 140
Cylinder 6- 138

Yesterday I also bought a new connector in hopes that will fix this assure. I am very uncertain that this will fix it so if anyone has any input please I am all ears.

I found this post from this forums and it sounds exactly like my problem (https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/1-c...-87494/index3/), I am wondering if the PCM has no ground trigger. How would I check that, I want to get this taken care of ASAP because I am currently driving my wifes Hyundai lol

When you replaced your manifold did you clean all the ports in your intake manifold? If you get even the tinyiest thing in the injector port you can cause it to not spit gas. Possibly you got something in the #1? I have the opposite problem of you. Replaced my manifold now my idle is almost 2k ha.

Yep, sounds like the connector/wire for #1 injector is toastola. If the insulation was stripped then in the wire itself the conductors are also probably cracked. Try to replace as much wire as you can.

trust96xj you probably have a vacuum leak Might want to check your bolts and hoses again

It's not the injector, when I put connector from #2 on injector #1 it smooths out.

I replaced the whole #1 connector then used the noid lights and no flashing or any light from connector 1. But good flashing from #2 connector. Could I have fried my PCM connection that controls #1. I would like to verify before I drop $300+ for a new one from JEEP
