So been fighting a P0305 cylinder 5 misfire and some other misfire codes on my 2000 lately, right when I thought I had it straight by tightening down the coil pack(it was loose), I drove it up the road and the CEL flashed again... ran to autozone and it came back P0305 AND P0171. When I put the new head on, I had some issues with the exhaust manifold flanges bolting to he mid-pipe.. and one, or both of them is leaking pretty bad.

I did get some injectors off of a taurus, and it wasn't 10 miles after doing that the P0171 code came... so I'm wondering if it's a bad/clogged injector or the exhaust. I ordered some rebuilt injectors from Programbo, so hopefully that'll help once they come, but im not so sure it's the problem.

Does anyone know if a BAD exhaust leak would contribute to a P0171 code?

I'm to the point I'd rather just take it to an exhaust shop and let them fix it since it needs new pipe and a muffler after the cat. I'm hoping it's not leaking around the underside of the intake manifold either though.

Any ideas?

Yes, a leaking exhaust can absolutely contribute to that code. Gotta have a perfectly sealed system.
