Default oxygen sensor

Hey Everyone,

I was looking at my oxygen sensor and I saw that there is a locking connector on the sensor. It seems both the male and female connectors connect and rest on some tray cover in a hard to reach area. Does anyone know if I can just pull it out? I saw a screw holding the tray in place and on the side I saw a plastic fastener which appears to go through the tray. Its really hard to reach from above and below. I'm hoping the connectors just rest on the tray and that's it. I can provide a pic if need be.

Pics would be nice. I know that on at least my '89, there's just the male and female connectors hanging there...no sort of tray that they rest on. Maybe the later years are different though?

Here is a photo of this connector tray.

I have a few more photos of it on my flickr account. Which is here http://www.flickr.com/photos/46116105@N04/?saved=1

Yeah, mine has nothing like that. Is that a square connector though? Mine is a flat three pin connector...what year is yours anyway? Dumb question I guess, but are you sure it goes to the oxygen sensor?

Default O2 replacement

I just replaced my O2 and it was exactly like picture. I took wire cutters and cut plasic clip to remove from metal holder and then replaced with zip-tie around connector and into hole in metal holder. I can send pic if this is not clear?

ok I'll try and punch it out and see if it can be salvaged and reused (probably not). I'll connect up and give it a shot. So is the pin thru the connector on the wiring harness side, not the sensor side?

Not sure but plastic clip is not removeable type like on upholstery and door panels that have a button release.
Just as an add on I had trouble with the special O2 socket for my 1/2 inch ratchet. The Sensor was in so tight that it opened up the socket and half stripped the sensor before I switched to a regular wrench 7/8th I think. You might need to apply some heat to the base of the sensor if it will not move or run the engine for a few minutes. Just a thought.
