Overheating issue and stock e-fan wiring question
How is the stock e-fan wired? I know it turns on when the a/c compressor is running. It should turn on when the coolant temp reaches x degrees.
I am having an overheating issue, and I don't think its kicking on when the coolant temp gets high, but it does turn on with the a/c compressor. I put a new thermostat in and its still overheating at idle and I don't ever hear the fan come on.

Because I drove it around town today and it was fine, and tonight I went up to the gas station and let it idle while I went in and then came out and was resetting my radio since I had the battery disconnected, and the temp light came on an antifreeze came out the cap.

I've got the old one back on because it physically fits tighter and does not leak. I will exchange the new one tomorrow.
I just got it home a few minutes ago, and from the short drive the thermostat housing was about 185 degress via infrared thermometer, and I figure the coolant temp is a bit higher. The mechanical fan spun freely at this temperature with the engine off.
When I turn the jeep off, the mechanical fan continues to spin freely for quite a while until it comes to a stop.

What should the fan feel like dead cold? This morning I went out and spun it by hand. It would spin, but not freely. IE as soon as I stopped spinning it, it would stop.
Everything I have ready says it should spin "freely"

OK replaced fan clutch and tested thermostat. Fan immediately sounded better. Hooked up scanner (dummy light dash) and the temp read 240-244 at idle and while driving with the hood closed. Electric fan never kicked on. The fan kicks on with the a/c turned on for a bit and then goes off before I turn the a/c off.
I am assuming the e fan is bad, but I had it idling for about 40 minutes and it didn't over heat.
What should a scanner read the temp at. I know a dash gauge (I don't have) will typically be 210, but i also know gauge clusters can be inaccurate.

No, my A/C compressor is converted to onboard air, but it still uses factory wiring. I bypassed the pressure sensors in the A/C system.
Basically my concern right now is the high scanner temp reading, and the electric fan not kicking on. Either the fan is malfunctioning, or the scanner temperature is off by about 20 degrees to the hot side.
