Only shifts gears in high RPM's
 

Hi Guys,

97 Cherokee country, 4.0, AW4, 161K miles.

This week she strated acting up. After warmin up she wont shift gears until the tach reads above 3K RPM's. Once above 3K RPM's, it will shift gears if I let off the throttle a bit. Same for all gears.

Tranny fluid looks good, maybe a tad over full though, would this matter? I did a 3 tranny drain and fills about 4 months ago, hasn't acted up until now.

Did throw a code last week for throttle position under voltage, can't rember the code#. Drove fine after I reset, now today after about a 100 mile trip, it's acting up again, no check eng light though.

TPS maybe?

Mine is an 89 and that has happened to me before and it was the tps,from what you have described i would say you have the same issue.

Mine was doing the same thing the PO never did anything but oil changes.A week after I had gotten it home I got a letter discribeing all the problems that it had in the mail.I spent a whole weekend testing and replaceing things on it after that letter.When you do test drives make sure its not at 9 oclock at night,and you can see everything.
