Not wanting to wade through multiple pages, may I ask if when viewed with the engine running do the water pump & crankshaft pulleys spin the same direction or opposite? I might also add a cracked cylinder head that adds only excess heat and not pressure somewhere as well would be unheard of.

Found this:
1996 was the year that everything switched to OBDII. That was also the year that Jeep consolidated the computer temp sensor and the gauge temp sender, by eliminating the latter. The 1996+ heads do not have holes for the gauge temp sender .

I have a '96 (change over yr) also and it has the sending unit at the back of the head on the drivers side(one wire connector). Sounds as if yours already has a 7120 head like mine could.

He says he's got the reverse rotation pump.

As far as the head goes we're just going by firestorms #60 post.

Used an IR gun, and also plugged in an OBDII scanner that shows realtime stats including the temp from the ecm or whatever. The gauge matches the reading I get from the ECM (the computer)

I've researched this and everyone says it will only make it overheat worse.
