Odd. When I key the ignition and turn it, it clicks once then silence. I turn the key back to off and then right back to start and it fires right up. Starter solenoid maybe?

When's the last time you sefviced your battery and cables?

Is your starter coated in oil from a leaking oil filter adapter?

Also, what are you driving?

Its an 01 that I just bought. The battery looks to be new and seems to hold voltage well. The starter is a little caked, yes.

The cables could probably be replaced but it appears that the positive side is part of a huge loom so I was avoiding it for that reason.

What do the cable ends look like? Any corrosion at all? If so start there.

You can use a DVOM to check the little wire for voltage while a trusty assistant turns the key.

You can also google search "voltage drop" and start with checking at the cable ends and work your way down to the starter.

good luck

DVOM = digital voltage/ohm meter
