Question Ok Guys some help

Ok Guys I am going to look at an pick up a 93 XJ 4x4 I know before yall said look at the underbody, look for rust leaks ect.... anything else i should look for an if all the vacume lines have not been replaced should i replace the its a red 93 XJ with inline 6 an its 4 door when I get it ill start my build post.... Wish me luck... Oh an i am picking it up for $600

I think with that age and price rust and the motor should be your two main worries, I wouldnt worry to much about the regular maintenance stuff (light bulbs, vac lines) As long as the oil only has oil in it and the underbody and rockers dont have too much rust your good to go!

X2 on all above but I would like to add that you check out the 4 wheel drive for a worn chain. I got my Heep for a great price and it had no rust anywhere but the chain needed to be changed with 194,000 miles on it...Tj

Take the t-case out and disassemble it.

BTW: check the door hinges for cracks where they are mounted to the doors, and the body.

Before he buys it? thats friggen crazy. Who guys to buy a Jeep and takes the tcase out?

well the driver door fell off so i am taking the doors off of it.... so thats not a problem but when i was talking to the guy he mentioned that the 4x4 works good but ill be testing it on his property before i drive it home

I answered his question.

If you are really good, you can probably hold the rear output, and turn the front back and forth to judge chain stretch.

The t-case should be in 4wd for this to work, and you need to know how much slack is NORMAL. practice with a known good t-case first.

And the above isn't sure fire way of checking, the chain could skip under load, which you can't simulate in the yard under the jeep.
