So can I reuse the old oil pump pickup on my new oil pump, or do I need to just get a new one. I am having a hard time getting the old one off, and new ones are cheap enough, but it will be Tuesday before Autozone or Napa can get one in

if the mesh screen isnt damaged and the tube isnt pinched/distored...they are reusable.....if you dont mind me asking why is the oil pump being replaced and what pump are you using?

Im replacing the pump because I was already in there getting the rear main seal, and the Jeep has 200k miles on it. Its a Napa brand pump, $85.00. Oil pressure was running higher than I am used to on the highway (80lb), but the old one seemed more or less alright. Mostly it just seems like the thing to do while I am in there. Want to make this thing as maintanance free as possible for the next 50k miles or so.

You can use the old one, it can be hard to pull out though. Clean it up really good with some diesel to get any gunk out.
