Default Oil Pressure Sending Unit

I put a new sending unit in my 93 XJ 4.0 after breaking off the first one and now the gauge is pegged all the way past the highest reading. Could I have the wrong sending unit? It was fine before with the old one. Not sure.

Pegged pressure gauge means no connection (same thing happens if you unplug it). Make sure your connectors are in good shape and clean. Could also be a faulty unit, but check the above first.

I had the same problem. Make sure your connection is good. It seemed the new unit I bought did not connect well so I used electrical tape to keep the connection tight.

I would make sure you got the gauge version of the oil pressure sending unit and not the dummy light version. That sounds like what the dummy light digital sender would do.

yeah this could cause issues with the wrong unit. i would take it back and have them switch it to a new unit if this one is faulty. and deff check your wires and clean them

I was headed to the gauge swap thread but maybe this one is better. Installed the cluster with gauges & used the oil sending unit from the donor jeep (not a new one) on power up the needle goes all the way to the right (pegs). at power down it does not go back to zero. So do I have the wrong sending unit OR is the oil press gauge bad? The funny thing is that the sending unit from the donor & the one I removed from the jeep that had dummy lights look exactly the same. So did the donor jeep have the wrong sending unit? Everything else works so far, tach, gas, alt. I have both the temp & oil press senders coming in new tomorrow. But once I install the oil unit I can not take it back so I'm just wanting to be sure the gauge itself is not bad. Thanks, this forum motivated me to do this swap that we have wanted to do for 15 years!

Thanks for the info. I can't take it back, as I ordered online a while ago. I will, however, check the connection and make sure it's tight. If that's not it, I'll probably get another one. I didn't know they had different ones for gauges and dummy ones. Regardless, it's all about figuring it out and educating myself about my Jeep.

i don't think they are different but you may have got a bad unit but the connection is the first place to check

There are different units for dummy lite or gauge. My connection is good I am counting on that the donor jeep had the wrong unit in it. New ones coming tomorrow. We will see then! I attached a pic. note the oil press gauge

Cool

I will. I'm hoping that the wrong sending unit got installed into the donor jeep.

When I picked up the sending unit for my 96 on my swap, autozone had the wrong part listed for the 96 cherokee. It did the same thing, pegged to the right. I had them look up the part for the 95 and it was a different part number, plugged that one in and it worked like a charm.
