Default Oil pressure problem?

So I had an issue yesterday where my oil pressure constantly dropped and I had loss of throttle unless I was tapping the gas. I added more oil and added coolant but I still feel as though my oil pressure is low. Being from the states I'm still not very good with reading these values and wanted to know if the readings on my gauge is normal or not? What do you guys think? Also I'm new to the forum and a first time poster. This is an idle pressure. Is it normal?

Welcome to the forum!

It can be a normal reading on an XJ.

Get your hands on a mechanical gauge and check it to verify the true pressure. It's the most accurate and reliable way to put your mind at ease.

Your will read ~3 bar on the gauge at cruising speed. Just use your hand to manually push throttle linkage or have someone give it throttle.

Let us know what you find out and we can go from there.

Awesome! I'll try that! The only problem with owning a jeep out here is it's extremely hard to find parts on island for American vehicles lol. Any spare parts I should order so that I have them on hand? It usually takes about 2 weeks for parts to get in.

Understood.

Unfortunately, it could be a few things causing the pressure to read low on the gauge so, until you verify the true pressure with a mechanical gauge, I wouldn't know which part/parts to recommend.

If you would, take a moment and tell us what year and engine is in your XJ, please. The gauges look to be '97 and later. Thanks

The one piece of hardware that "may" be in play for your current problem would be the oil pressure sending unit. A very common failure on the 4.0 engine. Go with the original Mopar unit; it is a best match for accuracy and reliability.

The other thing that you should have on hand is a genuine Mopar crankshaft position sensor. Another very common failure on the 4.0. If this sensor fails, you will not have spark and you will not have fuel TO the fuel injectors.

are you in the service? Or living there for other reasons?
Yeah i cant imagine many spare XJ parts laying around over there. and with the size difference in vehicles, its probably considered a mid to fullsize SUV, right?

Could make for an interesting build thread, lol.

Yea I am in the army. I'll be out here for the next 2 years but I plan on bringing my rig back when I go home. I am probably going to install a mechanical fuel gauge that way I have zero reason to believe it would be wrong. As to the other issue I am having with the throttle I narrowed it down to the catalytic converter. Its broken into chunks and causing my o2 sensor to freak out lol

As to your other question it's pretty much the equivalent of a dialysis out here lol. It's almost too big to drive. So I really only drive when I absolutely have to. I only bought it because it had 52k miles and was completely rust free with a 6 inch long arm kit and brand new tires. I actually got it for a hell of a deal.

Nice! Have you been able to check the oil pressure w/ a manual oil pressure tester yet? Like this:

I have a metric gauge too, also not in the states, mine usually sits halfway between 0 and 3 bar at idle and sits bang on 3 bar at 2000RPM, I run 15w40 oil, my idle was much lower when I ran 10w30.
