So i was driving one day and happened to glance down and my oil pressure gauge was at 80. not moving. normally its in the middle at the normal range. Turned the engine off, let it sit for a bit, turned it back on, nothing. stayed the same.
ive been told its most likely the sensor that went bad and not actually anything wrong. Ive been driving it like this for some time now, but the weather is changing here in ohio and id rather have everything working perfectly before the weather breaks.
Any tips?

Peg at 80 is what they do when they go up. I'll suggest getting a MOPAR unit only because the aftermarket one I bought only lasted a month. The MOPAR unit has been on for 7-8 yrs.

any tips? yes. confirm wiring etc is undamaged and replace the defective part. oil pressure sending unit. i suggest a mopar part, as well. the aftermarket one i used lasted a little over 3 years.
i pulled the check gauges light a couple years ago and let it be. i am not suggesting this solution.

It won't cause any other problems other than not knowing what your oil pressure is. Truth is none of these sending units are accurate. My '96 Blazer is the same way.
I want to add that in the past 2yrs I've used a few Standard Motor Products and have had good luck with them. IAC,distributor cap, rotor.

It's located right at your oil filter. Make sure that when you buy one it's for a gauge and not an idiot light. If you want to give the STANDARD brand a try go here.

The oil pressure sending unit is located inboard of your oil filter. It's literally a 5 minute swap. Can't remember price, I just went to Napa, told them my jeeps info, and got the correct sending unit. Easy-peezy

If you don't mind a small mess, give it a crank while the old sensor is out. Crud tends to accumulate in that passage and clearing it out is a good idea.
The reason some people have problems when they first replace the sensor is that crud. Then they decide they need an OE sensor and it works 'confirming' that they OE sensor was the right thing to do. What actually happened is that the first one got clogged up with crap and when they changed it again that crap was cleared out so any second sensor would have worked fine.
