oil pan gasket and rear main seal
i just got back from a 350 mile trip... during the trip, i pulled into a gas station and got under the truck to realize that my oil pan gasket is leaking a bit. looked in the back side to see how it's supposed to come off and saw that the bell housing has quite a bit of oil on it too. so, i guess that's the next repair. how hard is it? i mean header swap was about 4 on a scale of 1 to 10 for me.
but, i kinda wanted to see if there are any write-ups on the rear main seal and oil pan gasket. it would be great if someone that knows how to do it, lets me know what all has to come out. thanks.

from my cherokee experience I have noticed that when the trans is covered in oil usually the valve cover is the first suspect.

yeah, Make sure the leak is NOT the Valve Cover, or Oil Filter Assy. Before you spend 4-8 hours changing a RMS. Personally I wouldn't change the RMS on a XJ, until you are getting more than a 2" pool under the rig, overnight. My ZJ had a quarter to Silver Dollar sized drip from about 100K till I wrecked it at over 260K.

On your scale, I would have to agree on a 2! Just make sure that you read the manual and follow all the directions and you wont have any problem with leaks. Also make sure that all your gasket surfaces are clean! Have fun!
