Default Oil pan backet

Too much time has passed since dropping the pan and scraping off the original 265k gasket on my 1990 Laredo 4.0. I have a half-moon pot-metal bracket that goes on the rear of the pan but I don't remember the sequence or "layering" - is it block, then gasket, then bracket then pan? I can't find any photos, videos, etc. that show this bracket. Thanks!

If it's the piece that looks like a strap, that goes on the outside of the pan.

Thanks for the input. It is about 1/4 inch wide, with holes that match up with the bolt holes on either side of the half-moon shaped opening. I am going with the Fel Pro silicone gasket and don't want to screw it up. Now that I think of it, this might explain why it doesn't show up in any of the drawings, etc.

I guess it could be called a strap, but I don't see the purpose for it since it is just bolted using the same bolts as the rear of the pan and doesn't seem to add anything - like additional support. . .

If your using the blue one piece Fel-Pro gasket you don't need it.

Many thanks, Dave51 - This will be very useful as I doing a nose-to-tail "refurb" on my trusty friend (hopefully w/o an engine rebuild)

.As for using the blue Fel Pro gasket and the reply by Papablista - "If your using the blue one piece Fel-Pro gasket you don't need it." My papa was a chief mechanic in the AAC (for those old enogh to know what that was) and he taught me to always ask why? when it comes to mechanical stuff. So - not to beat a dead horse, but I don't see why I don't need the bracket with the one-piece gasket, but Jeep thinks I need it with the multi-piece?

That's the reason it is a brace for extra squeeze on the multi, felpro's is a solid one piece as long as your oil pan is not warped or dented the felpro will seal all the way around, I have one on mine and have had no signs of leaking . Here's a pic from my rebuild you can see the blue all the way around, They are nice thick gaskets. I have maybe 1000 miles on it now .
