Oil light popped on
Changed the oil in my 4.0 xj today. After I changed the oil my oil light came in in the bottom right hand corner in the dash. Any ideas on why it came on? To much oil is the only thing I can think of bc I did put 6 quarts in and the dip stick is reading "don't fill past this line"

You probably damaged the oil sending unit or knocked the plug loose from the sender while changing the filter.

I assume you have just the light, not a gauge? Might want to borrow a mechanical pressure gauge and screw it into the sender port temporarily. Most likely a sender problem, but better to check than guess.

Hmm possible but no way to test it.

I have a 98 2dr xj 4.0 and I had the same problem as Midwestnick. After closer inspection I noticed the pressure sender was broken. So I got a new one (this one to be exact http://www.shopjeepparts.com/pressure-sender-1998-cherokee-p-15666.html) and installed it today. The light is still on! Is that the correct part? I read somewhere there was two kinds did I get the wrong one? Not sure what else could be the problem.
