Oil Light on 97 Cherokee
 

If I hook this Jeep up to the computer will it give me a code or say why the oil light is on? Or does this only work for check engine light?

have you tried checking the oil?

the oil light do you have the basic dash can you post a pic so i can see what you are talking about

Haha... I'm not an idiot... it has oil, I actually just changed it yesterday but the light has been on for a while. I'll try and get a picture soon.

could be an oil life indicator light(not sure if Xjs have one).. my other car has one.. there should be a reset button somewhere if so.. check your owner's manual...

i have never seen one on an xj but who knows maybe it just triped some thing that needs a reset

I'm not sure what model it is exactly, I'll let you know in a bit. It is my girlfriend's and she is at work. Does anyone know though if it would show up on a diagnostic test or do only check engine lights send codes?

Try checking the sending unit near the distributer, maybe a wire fell off...Tj

yeah.. i didnt remember seeing one on mine but i took a shot in the dark.. lol.. i know when it came on in my other car it was def. irritating to look at until i reset it
