Default Oil Leak on Top End of Engine and Dripping from Rear Main Seal?

I received my XJ free from a family member and have started on restoring it back to full working order. I ordered all new brake parts and have been working on that the past week. I did some more investigation into the oil leak and noticed there is some oil residue on the top side of the engine and it is coming from the oil pressure sending unit. I'm going to remove it and reseal the threads to see if that resolves the issue but would that leak drip down between the engine and transmission? When I shined a light where the rear main seal would be there is oil collected there and dripping to the floor just below it. Does it sound like I have leaks in both places?

Thanks, I'll seal up the top and clean everything up first then double check the rear main seal. I added the specs of my jeep to the first post. Need to get into the habit of including that.

Does the oil pressure sending unit usually leak from the treads or plastic which would require replacing it?

They usually don't leak if installed correctly or were hit (usually while changing the filter). Wouldn't hurt to reseal the threads and see if it helps. Clean the whole area down there making sure to get the oil filter adapter good. Then watch for leaks.

Thanks for the responses. I'll check the oil filter adapter as well!

Mine was leaking from out of the plastic and only sometimes. I thought it was the filter leaking until I dug in further. The sensor was dripping on to the filter. If you do replace it, go with the Crown version. And while you are down there, you might as well do the o-rings on the oil filter adapter.
