Post 89 cherokee coolant problems !!

yepp it happens.. I ran my cherokee for about 30 minutes the other day and got back to the house and checked underneath my hood, and Found a ****T LOAD of trouble..

My engine coolant bottle had started to overheat and the coolant started to leak out of the hose directly connected underneath the bottle.. SOO i took off the coolant bottle cap and found my Coolant smoking and very hott !!

Now i figured that the coolant might have been overfilled.. soo I drained the coolant out of the bottle by unhooking the hose on the side of a 89 cherokee coolant bottle.. i got a bucket and drained out the coolant... BUTT I also found that the coolant was a milky color and very hott... hott eniugh to start smoking....

SOOOO I DONT REALLY KNOW WHAT TO DO RIGHT NOW... i think i might have a Blockage or debris backed up in my hoses ... ANY HELPP??

If you have any leaks in the system at all, it WILL overheat. The "smoking" you're referring to is prolly steam, and is normal. If the pressure bottle has not been replaced in some time it may be time to look for a replacement, as they will separate over time. HTH!!

Did your temp gauge go up at all? I'm assuming it shot up. You need to just loosen the overflow cap until all the steam is out, and the fluid cools off, or else hot fluid will spill anywhere. Not sure where you live or weather conditions, but if you did not have a good mix of antifreeze, it may have blocked up somewhere. (not likely if you drove for 30 min prior) It was probably coming out of underneath the overflow 1 because the hose is not securely on there and 2 because there was so much pressure.

Okay, so this exact same thing just happened to me and the cap to the coolant from the overflow won't come off. It was steaming from underneath my Jeep. It's dripping oil and coolant. It got worse as I went up hills and bends. It's parked now and appointment is set with the mechanic....but why with this suddenly happen??? Ugh, I was going into the mechanic for something totally unrelated....oil leaking from oil pan. This is a pain in my ***, I'm just glad it wasn't smoking from the engine...not to mention I don't HAVE to try it anywhere and can use my bosses car. Anyhow, any advice?
