That squidgy thing is on your transmission mount. It looks like grease or silicone adhesive. I'm not sure why that would be there, but it's not related to your leak...
I've seen valve cover leaks that look just like your issue.

You can post all the photos you want.
Until YOU inspect your Jeep yourself, everything else is a time wasting guess.

OK so i think i've gotten to the bottom of the oil leak(s). The main leak is indeed from the gearbox oil pan. I drained it today and got about a pint of fluid out of it! The oil filter adapter is leaking and i have the seals to fix that and the rear main is also leaking - but very minimally - there's fresh oil around it but no drips or anything whilst the engine is running. It will need doing but no major drama right now.
I took all the bolts out of the gearbox oil pan and having watched a few Youtube videos i see that it's a tight fit to get it out BUT mines will never come out without either moving the exhaust or the crossmember - i think the exhaust is a slightly different shape than the original and is blocking it. I'm planning on jacking the gearbox to take the weight then removing the crossmember. I've removed the bracket from the dip pipe in the engine bay (won't split) and hope I can drop the whole thing to the floor with the cross member out where I can either work on taking off the old ****ty gasket and goo or cut the pipe and do the brake pipe fix on it afterward.
Couple of questions for you guys:
If i need to cut the dip pipe and fix it with rubber pipe, what size do i need?
Whichever idiot attempted this before me must have had some difficulty getting the pan off and stuck a screwdriver in - there are some screwdriver shaped dents and scratches in the case - nothing major but enough to notice. Shall I use some goo on the gasket?
