No offense but you are turning it the correct direction, right?

I believe so honestly I tried both way thinking maybe I had it wrong but these should spin clockwise right ?

EZEARL Sep 26, 2015 02:09 PM

Clockwise is on. Was it leaking at all?

An no leaks that I'm aware of from there at least

Never use a screwdriver for that job EVER just use the right filter wrench I have a half dozen or so different ones and turn the right direction.

Now when you get it off make sure you get the O-Ring off with it so the new filter will seal.

EZEARL Sep 26, 2015 02:15 PM

Just wondering if it might be cross threaded. Could still be and not leak maybe.

It's Still not moving I tryed sticking some on blaster on it an it didn't do it ether

Really? You may need to consider removing the entire oil filter adapter while the filter is still attached then.

Edit: Here's a link if for filter adapter removal:

http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoOilAdaptorOrings.htm

Also, part# for '98 oil filter adapter o-ring kit is the same as the '95 shown in the link. I paid $13 at the local dealer.

if you have room to get one in you might want to try and slip a razor blade between the seal and adaptor (be careful not to cut yourself obviously), sometimes this can help break a stuck filter free. I'd also use a cap-style oil filter wrench and the biggest ratchet handle or breaker bar you have that will fit and a piece of pipe (cheater-bar) if needed.

The easiest way to get a stubborn filter off is to use this:

What you need to do is take a hammer and cold chisel to the base of the filter and give it a good whack in the counter clockwise direction. It's like when you hit the top of a peanut butter jar with a butter knife. Works for me. Good luck.

Sounds like this is the issue. A quick call to the one who just changed the oil in it to find out if he had trouble when he was "Tightening" the filter back on might be worth doing :)

this could mean bad news, it was for me at least when I had this problem, the result:
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.che...3a82850a2b.jpg

had to bust off the top, insert a board and screw wood screws through the filter into the wood. Sometimes the wrenches just don't work...
