Default OEM keyless entry

Discovered my 2000 XJ has a board up in the dome but at this time I do not have fobs nor do I know if the board is still functional. I've read that earlier model jeeps that have OEM RKE say that the range absolutely blows, that you need to be standing right next to the jeep for it to lock/ unlock. Can anyone confirm that would be the same for my 2000 jeep?. Trying to decide if it's worth picking up a new fob off eBay... Thanks

Hey you'll have to buy a board with the fob already programed to it or buy a don and go to the stealership to have it programed which ranges from$25-150 I found a guy on ebay that sells the board and fob for $40 and he will buy your old board too.

Hope this helps

I believe what they actually sell us just a new fob case you still need the original board.

From what I've read the range on OEM RKE system blows big time @ about 10-20'. May go with aftermarket. Thanks guys.
