All OEM related XJ specific tech. Examples, no start, general maintenance or anything that's stock.
Hello everybody. First post to the forum but I'm on my second XJ. My first one was a Sport so it had the factory speakers in the rear headliner. My latest on is an SE so it didn't come with factory speakers in the rear.
I have a nearly mint condition OEM 97-01 rear sound bar but I can't find any information on it whatsoever or any pictures of what it looks like actually installed in a Jeep. When I do an image search all I can come up with are pictures of the part itself or pictures of the first gen sound bar. Does anyone on here have any experience with these or pictures of one installed? I can't even find the part in any MOPAR parts catalog so I'm totally stumped. It doesn't seem like rocket science to install it but I'm just curious why I've never seen one in any XJ.
I've attached images of the sound bar and the part numbers/stickers.
I don't have any pictures, and you would think that the amount of times I had my headliner out I would (LOL), but I can tell you this much.
See those 2 tabs on either end in the first shot?
They go in slots in the roof on the sides.
That is it. It just hangs in there.
Now the headliner itself when that is used is contoured to accommodate that.
It's considered to be part of the headliner vs a separate part like the older style speaker bars. For accuracy the molded speaker bar/headliner was a 98+ deal.
For the cost and if you have a you wrench yard nearby, go pull the headliner from another 98+ xj with the speaker bar still secured. The cost is not gonna be very much and this way you can also re apolster while it's down and out.
I say this because the amount of work that would have to go into adapting that speaker bar shell to a non comformed headliner that was made for it far outways the simplicity of doing soo.
If your not completely set on using the newer style then the older style will easily fit with your existing headliner if one of those is available.
