Odd sound coming from dash?

This happens for about 30 seconds every few months then just stops?

sounds like maybe a plastic gear / actuator, maybe on a heat or ac blend door?

At a certain point of the video I heard "static" or a crackle. Could it be a bad connection at the speaker?

Wow, thanks! I would have never thought! I was actually thinking sound system like bsmd said because now one of my front speakers have shorted out. I will get into that this weekend. The fiance works all weekend so me n the xj get to spend some time together lol.

NO prob I looked for that sound for almost two months, Then I found it. I just cleaned all the contacts in the turn single switch and that all went away. when that sound happens turn your turn signal on it should go away.

Ha! Mine just started doing this too. Freaked out my wife the first time, sounded like a movie sound effect short circuiting! lol Jiggled the turn signal stalk and all was back to normal. Need to clean those contacts

Some unsolicited off-topic advice, since you mentioned a topic dear to my heart: Whenever a speaker goes, everybody always wants to assume that a wire is broken or shorted. However, the stock door speakers in the late model XJs like to rot and fall apart. So if you still have the stock speakers, before you go spend hours pulling your hair out trying to trace down a phantom wiring problem, pull that speaker out of the door and see if the paper diaphragm is still intact. Sure, it may be a wiring issue, but I would rule out a dead speaker first.

Both my front speakers went, starting with "static" and then going dead. On both, the diaphragms were shredded. Those speakers were crap. You can actually get a rebuild kit for them, but why you would do that I can't imagine.
