NP 242 light question

So just to start off, I tried searching, but it would only let me look up the word light. (I suck at searching). i have a 1990 cherokee with a NP 242 t-case. the little part-time indicator light does not work. is this usually a swich problem like the NP 231, or is it most likely a bulb. any input would help. also, if it is the switch, what one is it in the t-case? and is it the same proses as the the NP 231? thanks.

On the np231 the switch is on top of the TC it should be the same on the np242. It's easier to check the switch I think then worry about the bulb in the cluster

head over to the "ask the questions" thread and repost someone over there might have the pic i wont be able to get under my rig anytime soon to check and take a pic also let them know your dash bulb is good so you dont get 8 ppl telling you to check that. Good luck and if i can get ahold of the pic of the switch on the TC ill let you know

The switch can fail internally (broken spring) or justs needs cleaning (sticking ball or electrical contacts).
Look here for it's location:

That didn't really help me at all. I have a 242. That's about a 231.

Very similar position for both.

242 light in a renix might be vacuum operated, just like the 231 was. Ill have to look at the fsm
