Np 242, driving without rear DS?

Hi all,

just wondering, should I be able to drive in full time without a rear DS? I'm in the process of getting a new front D'S and want to ditch the tc drop, add hackntap and New rear D's. Its my DD so trying to keep my wheeis turning to get to work.

thank you.

You can't drive it in full time but you can use part time.

I drove my 97 ZJ over 100 miles on just the front axle when my rear diff exploded. For some reason it started to feel weird about 45 mph so I kept it under 50. I just pulled the rear shaft and drove it in part time.

I think 55 mph is the max full time is supposed to be driven at. Same for part time you think?

also is 4low locked like 4 part time, just lower gearing?

The Jeep can be operated at and transfer case shifted in and out of 2wd and 4wd high at any legal road speed.

That said, put your 242 transfer case in PartTime and carry on.

If you are going to use a hackantap this the one I used because it uses a stock front drive shaft so my XJ uses 2 front drive shafts , I have the same drive shaft in the front and the rear , so if I want to carry a spare drive shaft all I need is one . here's the link https://www.ironrockoffroad.com/prod...nator-kit.html
