np 242 4 lo whine
 

I have an 88 cherokee with the 242. I put it in 4 hi and it works fine. But then when I put it in 4 lo it makes this whineing sound. What's going on? Hope someone can help me. Thanks

Linkage adjustment correct, fluid level ok? Are you sure it's not gear reduction noise you are hearing?

My renix did it, my girlfriends 96 does it, and I think my new 97 does too...

Remember "4Lo is for going slow". Even 10 to 15mph will cause it to whine.

What happens if it just kicks you out of 4 hi and lo? It grinds and kicks me out? Is that transfer case or hubs or what?
