Default Not recognizing being in park

Good morning. I am having a problem with my 89 cherokee not recognizing its in park. It has a brand new NSS installed by the dealer. this is specifically related to the linkage on the steering column.

If I turn the key to start/run (battery is unhooked) it moves freely. Then I put the jeep into gear, put it back into park, and then go to remove the key, the key will not turn back all the way to lock. Now there is a rod on the top of the column (not going to the ignition switch or the dimmer switch, but a 3rd one) that if I touch it and move it up a tiny bit, then i can turn the key to lock.

I assume this rod is connected to the shift handle in some way. Does anybody have a diagram or a picture, or a video of this?

Thank you!

check if there is a spring that might be broken that makes it pop back when put in park or try spraying some wd40 into sheathe around cables, see what makes it go back when you put it into park (lever or actuator)

Thats all i can think of

actually got it all fixed up. was a broken piece of plastic that was the plastic guard that moved back and forth when you move the shift lever back and forth, I guess it broke and got down in there and mucked stuff up. Pulled it out and we're all good now.

The ignition switch was not properly adjusted or fastened on the column.

I replaced the ignition switch, and still had the problem, pulled the sifter apart and found a broken piece of plastic and BAM! fixed.
