Default Is this normal.

I recently purchased a 2001 Cherokee, and was crawling under it and noticed this exposed gear, across from the oil pan. Looks like it was missing a cover, and I just wanted to know if it was normal or if there should be a cover there?

this is what it looks like.

thanks.

Cover that puppy. J/Y would be the place to locate a cover for that.

Gravel can get between the ring gear and the transmission case. That will mess up the ring gear. Get a cover as soon as you can.

NOTE: BEFORE you cover that up. Turn flexplate and double-check the torque converter bolts are TIGHT. Then cover it up.

My 89 has a cover, but You can still see parts of the flywheel. Like the cover does not protect the whole area. I have been wondering if the covers should be covering the whole thing or not?
