Welcome to CF from Buck in western Washington state. Definitely beware of a rusty undercarriage. Oil leaks in the 4.0 are common but can be fixed correctly so they don't come back.

well now if your going to lift it, a Dana 30 HP is what you want in the front, plus it adds clearance. The later model cherokees are what I would recommend, reasons being:

- you get the later model np242 transfer case (no leaks if you have to take off the rear shaft)
- 29 spline chrysler 8.25 rear (instead of the Dana 35)
- HP Dana 30 front
- SelecTrac transfercase (fulltime/part time/part time low options)
- less rust to worry about

good choice on wanting a cherokee though......in reality they are all good, had an 89 before, and it was stout (even with the Dana 35 rear) and now have a 99, just as stout....if not more

have fun!
