Default noisy thermostat

I have noticed in the last several months the loud opening and closing sound of the thermostat on my 2001 XJ. I am not having any over heating issues As a matter of fact I flushed and replaced the coolant about a month ago and it seems to be running at the correct temp but I feel like the clicking noise of the T-stat is not normal. Is this something I should be concerned with? Maybe I should replace it since they aren't that expensive? Thoughts or experiences?
Thx

Not quite sure how a t-stat could make noise.....they open/close very slow....but if u have doubts, replace it. Always a good idea to test even a new t-stat in a pot of water on a stove using a cooking thermometer.

I dunno, it is indeed cheap, but why fix something that isn't broken?

I dunno about you but I think if it were me I'd save my money til i figured out if/what is broken before tossing money at a part that seems to be working fine as is.

Maybe that's just me.

I also do not understand how a thermostat can make noise unless it's one of those goofy fail-safe thermostat. Even then I'm not sure it would be loud enough to be heard. I suggest the OP uses a mechanics stethoscope to confirm where the sound source is.

I think something else might be making your noise. I have never heard a thermostat open/close, not above the engine noise .......

Wonder if the clicking noise could be the a/c compressor? Supposedly, '00 up the efan turns on only when coolant temp reaches 218, not when the a/c engages.

Thanx for the replies all. You maybe be right, I'll admit I am not 100% sure about the thermostat. I'll look at some of the other items that many of you have suggested. That's what I love about this forum.... The informed informing the uninformed!!! Thanks again all!!
