I have no drivers side tail light but have brake light I have tried replacing the bulb and the socket with wire harness and still nothing is there a module that could cause this or is it a short in the wire somewhere?

 

I can't see what year xj you have,but it just may be a blown fuse.fuse#7 maybe?

 

I have 98 classic 4.0 first thing i tried was fuse

 

Check the wiring by the tail lights and maybe the grounds specifically. if its not in the fuse, and not at the wiring near the tail light, idk.

 

two other things to try. Take a small knife or screwdriver and scrape the contacts in the bulb socket. also take the bulb from the driver side and make sure it works in the passenger side.
