No Start/Fuse Panel Problems

1 Attachment(s)
Alright so last night I was backing into a parking spot and my 89 Cherokee died and wouldn't run. It will start but dies after about 1 second. I know that my fuel pump is not priming but is getting around 11 volts while cranking and nothing when it should be priming. I replaced the fuel pump about 5 months ago so I assume it's not the problem. Anyways once I got it home I realized that my fog lights and my led pods did not work and this is where the fuse panel problem comes into play. If you look at the picture below I circled where I get power for my relays for my fog lights and my pods.(I only use this for the low amperage side of the relay not the power to the lights) This used to be a constant source of 12 volts regardless to key position but now it reads nothing. So I'm pretty sure these two things are related because my fog lights were on when it died and now they don't work. I'm not really sure where to start but I'm at a loss and finally reaching out for help!

With key in run position see what else in box has lost power. Possible Ignition switch issue. In fuse box there are strips each feed by a different wire from Ignition switch. If power is lost to one of them there should be other places/acc not working.

Okay.... I went out there today and while I was testing different things that one dead pin became hot again and the jeep actually started priming again. I didn't replace anything, I was just testing the different pins and I realized that everything had power again and now it works fine so I guess its an intermittent electrical problem and now I have to wait till it happens again.

I'd be looking at the connector/harness that feeds the fuse block.

I unplugged the main connection for the fuse panel and made sure it was clean and wasn't corroded or anything and it looked alright to me so I put it back in and it is still working fine. I guess If... well when It happens again I will come back to this post and start over from scratch. Unless anyone thinks there is a way to still check things even though it is working fine. I think this is the first time I have been upset that it is running lol.

I would do Tip 3 just cuz.

Alright.... so the problem is back. and it is doing the exact same thing. So I'm wondering if anyone has any wiring diagrams for the Renix fuel pump circuits. I need to start chasing wires and grounds and everything because this is driving me crazy!!!

Do Tips 1,3,4, and 5 first. Those cover what you're looking for as far as grounds etc, and more.

Ignition switch going south ?

Morning Major.

Alright Cruiser once I get home from work I will do Tips 4 and 5 but I did the others within the last month.
And Freedgr I was wondering the same thing except that everything comes on when I turn the key except the priming of the fuel pump so I'm not really sure.

Alright. Sensors seem to check out fine and I went back through my plugs quickly to check for corrosion and I didn't see any. Any ideas? Could it be the ECU not sending the power for the ballast resistor circuit? Is there anyway to test the ECU to see if its working properly?

Can ya see where feed to fuel pump relay gets its power...

crawler487 02-04-2016 06:37 AM

Freedgr Yes I can follow that but is there anymore to that diagram because It looks like its been cut off at the bottom and I'd like to see where it goes after that. Only because I don't want to miss anything.
