No reverse or high gear

No reverse or high gear
I have the opportunity to buy a 2001 Grand Cherokee with 100k miles on it. The owner says it has no high gear or reverse. I know that my 2006 had a problem with bridging on the printed circuit board under the shifter that was solved with a gentle cleaning. Does the 2001 suffer with a similar malady or is this going to need a rebuild?
