Default No low beams

I've read most of the theads regarding this issue. I just put a 95 4.0 in my 96 xj. Camshaft was bad in the old motor and found one just south of me for 400$ with only 92k on it. My rig is purring like never before.

The jeep sat for about two months before I put the motor in and I know the low best worked when I parked it. Now that the new motor is in I have no low beams.

Bulbs are good, fuses are good, installed new dimmer switch which almost broke my back. I was literally upsode down in the drivers pan. Swapping the dimmer was a pita but got it in. Still no lows.

Pulled the harness apart behind drivers side headlight and it's of course corroded.

I was going to jump all the wires but the thread that shows wiring diagrams is Greek to me.

So long story short, what color wires connect to what?

Or can I just connect each wire to the corresponding wire on the harness? After I jump that harness, what else do I check to troubleshoot of that doesn't fix it? I read about the connecter on the steering column but it looks to be in good shape from the outside, haven't taken it apart bexcuse I'm not 100% it's the right one.

I got the low beams to come on when I plugged the harness under airbox back together just slightly and then they would go off after about 5 sec.

Also, a separate issue, my reverse lights work intermittently. If I go fast in reverse or move from drive to reverse a cone times the reverse lightside will come on.

Splice the wires one at a time to bypass the plug, you where they go won't matter as long as you keep the same pin connected to the same pin. For your reverse lights, clean the NSS (neutral safety switch) it is located underneath on the transmission. Get yourself a pacific coast manual, about $10 for the download and worth its weight in gold.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ceramic-H4-H...hR8Fgd&vxp=mtr, I also installed one of these when I deleted that plug it was fairly easy and made a nice difference in the brightness of standard old headlights.

I would agree 100%, I installed a putco harness a year ago and new headlights. I can't believe how long I drovever around practically in the dark.

Going to pull the nss now, watchEd a youtube video so feeling confident!

Then after that, I'll start on the harness jump.

You say you have a Putco harness installed? Have you swapped the hi and low beam relays? I had an intermittent loss of hi beams which turned out to be a hi beam relay problem.

No I didnt swap the relays.I installed the putco harness a year ago and it was working fine until the engine swap.

Going to jump th

e harness under where my airbox used to be (k&n) and see if that fixes it.

Question! Should I use dialectic Grease in this nss?

No problem, dielectric grease is non conductive and is used to seal out moisture I don't think there would be enough amperage to push through it electrically.

Victory, got the nss back in, reverse lights are working!

Now on to jump the headlight harness.

I attempted to tighten my ebrake cable but the nut is rusted on the bolt. I hit it with pb blaster but it won't budge. I took the cables loose and thought maybe I could unhook the ebrake under the center console though the shock boot. Will this work? Then I could put the bolt in the vise and actually get some torque to it. Or just fab up another bolt and nut to attach to the rod, or just get the oem part. Thoughts?

Never done that one, so can't say either way. When I cut that plug out I used a butt splice and heat shrink on each wire. Good luck it is pretty easy.

Ok I got the plugged jumped, new dimmer installed, still no low beams.

I know the bulbs are good. Am I missing a fuse or relay that I didn't check?

Do the lows go through the ignition switch? Maybe I missing something plug with the engine swap?

Which one is the low beam relay behind the drivers headlight?
