No dash lights
 

I bought a 1986 2 door Cherokee 4x4 2.8L V6.. it had no working dash lights when I bought it...and the previous owner said it was just the fuse. Does anyone know where that orange/black dash illumination wire originates from? Do I need to remove my fuse box and trace the wire into the engine compartment to see if there is a break?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Is it just me, or does that 5 amp fuse look "empty". Of all the fuses i have come across, the taps are visible thru the top two holes, so you can test the fuse without pulling it. ???

Just checking, but you did make sure that headlight on/off/dimmer is turned up? When i first bought mine was having all kinds of electrical issues with all the lights and dash ones too. All i had to do for my dash ones was turn the damn dimmer up on them... That 5 amp one does look kinda funny compared to the rest. Can also research the internet for wiring diagram.

On my 90 it's the same fuse as the tail lights. At 5 AM I wondered why I had no dash lights. About 17 hrs later I got a DUI, out on a Saturday night with no tail lights.


And X2, the dash light dimmer circuit in the headlight switch would need to be on and working. (turn the knob)

That's just the new fuses....I thought the same thing. Problem is there is not power to that socket. :(

Thank you for replying to my question... and ...MERRY CHRISTMAS! Yes, the dimmer was the first thing I checked. As a TOTALLY TEMP fix, I jumped the power for the circuit from the 7.5 amp fuse socket next to it. The lights work, but they don't dim. I've ordered a new light switch, but I still have the problem of no power to that circuit without the jumper.

That's the weird thing....tail lights were and are working fine. Only the dash lights and shift console lights were out. OH...AND my reverse lights don't come on either.... that's a new one I just realized.

Confirm power is coming out of switch yet.

Nice Freedgr and makes sense also, the dimmer terminal being right beside the ceramic potentiatometer.

Reverse lights are most likely the NSS out of adjustment, assuming it's an automatic. Still you might check the bulbs though, lot's easier!
