Theres a thread on this somewhere here
I had this problem myself and I remember finding at least 2 threads on this. Definitely search the forums for more detailed answers and suggestions.
The issue lies with the connector for the dashboard cluster, it tends to fail and you get an intermittent short if you hit a bump- Airbag light goes on and the gauges go dead.
You can replace this connector with a $14 part (or so it is said) but the work involved looks complicated to DIY.
For the most part I fixed mine-- I replaced my battery terminal cables. Dont ask me why but after I did that the problem stopped (mostly).
It still very very infrequently (every 6 months) will give me the problem but it goes away after a few moments.
You can temporarily fix the problem on the spot by pressing the spedometer button (the one that switches from mileage to trip mileage). If you do this when the problem happens, you'll see your cluster come alive again.
You can also use the "TV Set Fix"-- bang the underside of the dash with your fist (under the steering wheel) and that will bring it back to life, but that's dangerous to do at high speeds.
