Newbie Fan Question

On my 93XJ I have the belt/clutch radiator fan and a electic radiator fan. Has anyone here ever pulled the belt/clutch fan and replaced it with a second electric fan? Would this work or would my jeep burst into flames?

yes it will burst into flames

Why would you do that?

You may be able to get away with removing your belt driven fan and running a second electric fan but it will put a greater load on your electrical system. You will also need to figure out a way to regulate it so it's only on when needed. Your current fan clutch automatically regulates the fan to keep the engine only as cool as needed.

Another, and less expensive, alternative is to remove the fan clutch and run a flex fan. There is a potential problem with flex fans though as I have been told that when fording deep water the blades can catch the water and bend enough to hit the radiator. I never had it happen or seen it happen so I can't say if that is a true statement or not.

Why do you want to eliminate the belt driven fan in the first place? If it's due to a bad fan clutch a replacement is most likely less than half the cost of a new electric fan, plus you won't have waste time retrofiting the thing.

Deja vu? I coulda sworn I've seen this same thread once before....

and again before that...

and another time BEFORE that...

and way back when before that....

All joking aside I would replace it with a good quality fan clutch and call it a day. If you really wanna run an electric fan good luck. BTW a three row radiator will net you more cooling system capacity than a electric fan ever will.
