Default New XJ Owner - Minor Problem Questions

Hi Guys

Just bought a 1998 Jeep Cherokee XJ 4.0L 4x4 with 251 000 miles. Got her for a decent price and the 4.0's are reliable engines so mileage didn't bother me too much. Mechanically she's in real good condition. However I'm having some minor issues.

ABS light comes on once driving over 10 mph. I'm thinking its a bad ABS sensor in the rear. Is it possible that it could be the ABS pump?

Oil guage needle is constantly moving up and down. I'm hoping it's the oil pressure sending unit. Last resort is oil pump but they're usually strong and will replace that as a last option. Any leads as to what it could possibly be?

My rear axle bearing is finished so I'm hoping to do a rear end rebuild this weekend, replacing both bearings and pinion bearing.

Near future plans:

Lift kit
Tires and wheels
Front and rear bumpers
Engine rebuild if needed

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks

Adriaan

My advice would be to pull the plug on the ABS, ditch the D35 rear axle, and upgrade to a '97 and up C8.25 rear. If the D35 needs bearings anyway, it would be a good time to upgrade.

Now that sounds like a plan! Thanks for the advice. Guess I'll be at the JY this weekend

Might also be WSS. That sensor is inexpensive. I plug in my OBD twice a month just to check out for any codes, bad sensors etc.
Might be as simple as bleeding out your lines but that really depends on how your brakes feel when they are applied. Spongy, not much resistance....

Yes good time and excuse to replace the D35 now with a 97-01 Chy 8.25 29 spline differential in those years. Much stronger and a direct bolt-in.
