just got an 88 cherokee, i am putting a 3" lift on do i need to completely drop the front axels to get the new coils in?

no and yes. coil spring compressors are ok but unsafe imo
just disconnect the trac bar and go from there just jack up one side of the axle at a time and take out one coil at a time. fyi make sure the tires are off.
