New tranny mount=bad vibration
01 cherokee 4.0 114k miles. I had some noise (creaking) and vibration so I swapped out the transmission mount. It was definitely needed. Now the noise is gone but the vibration is MUCH worse, as in not driveable. Recently I put in a used driveshaft as well but that had no effect. Front driveshaft is out to eliminate it from the equation.
1st question- Can you screw up installing a tranny mount? Was there a certain direction it needed to be in? It looked the same on both sides so I assumed no. What else could cause the vibration to be so much worse with the new mount? |
Lift? any codes?
|
no lift, no codes. It does have new rear springs which has it sitting a bit high in the back. I put them in over the summer and thought they would have settled more by now.

Did u check your u joints also?

Did you get a poly or rubber mount? Poly will have more vibes

Could the new mount have changed the angles a bit? The new mount seemed to sit a tad bit lower making it to where the bolts had to pull the cross member flush with the frame. |
i am having the same problem in my 2004 tj its bone stock had a rear driveline vibe so i replaced the u joints it stayed the same so i put a new rubber trans mount the driveline vibe is the same but i now have a vibe at idle like i am runnin a solid mount ill keep trying i gues

Its rubber. I have the old shaft that has new u-joints. I had removed it because I'm pretty sure it was slightly damaged when removing the old u-joints. The new ones are in but it feels tight when you move the yoke around. I'm going to swap it back in and see if there is an improvement.

I think I found the culprit. Upon further inspection, there is quite a bit of vibration at idle especially when I first start it up. I checked the motor mounts and sure enough there was quite a bit of movement when prying on them. The pb blasting has begun. Hopefully this does the trick.

Your motor mounts are probably shot.

I replaced all the mounts at once, added a lot of vibration (probably partially since I used brown dog motor mounts). Man it makes everything feel better though. Shifts better, no more clunk from drive to reverse and reverse to drive. My rear locker never makes a sound anymore. It's amazing!

Whenever I replace motor mounts, I leave the bolts short of being tight. Start the engine, goose it a few times, shut it off, and then tighten the mounts.
|
I changed the motor mounts but no dice. The engine ran smooth in park but began vibrating badly when I put it in gear. I didnt even bother going for a ride. I guess I'm pulling off the new tranny mount and possibly replacing it with another. Anyone have any other suggestions? I'm stumped.

Did you damage any wiring or components, O2, CPS, etc.? Hard to believe a t mount could cause a rough idle just sitting there.
