Default New shock time; no air compressor for rear

Going to be doing the shocks today if it stops raining. I do not have a large enough air compressor for an air hammer for the rear shock nuts. If I use a punch and a BFH, will that still do the job?

I've searched cherokeeforum. Some people use a punch and hammer, some use an air hammer. Get in there and go for it.

That's the plan but was curious to hear how the hammer and punch method worked out for them.

It can be done, but youre going to be there a while. Air tools need a lot of air. What size compressor are you using?

I've been able to BFH them out no problem but definitely prefer and air hammer.

That's the problem, I don't have one anywhere near big enough. It's a 2 gallon. And I don't have a garage, or else I would just spend the money and get one.

Thanks. Yeah I'm sure the air hammer makes things easy.

You definitely need more than a 2 gallon. Some get by with a 26. Get the largest you can fit, and afford.

2 gallons is light cabinetry work territory.

I can get about 5 second bursts with a 5 gallon tank (maybe 2 or 3 cycles before I need to let the compressor catch up) and a crappy harbor freight air hammer. Mostly gets it done

Big is nice, but I got my 5 gallon compressor for $50 on Craigslist which is hard to beat...

I ended up grabbing a 10 gallon harbor frieght compressor that was on sale. As mentioned, I have no garage, just a basement. So everytime I use it, I will have to drag it out of the basement and hook everything up. It was light enough to carry.

It got the job done. Drivers side rear nuts popped right out. The passenger side one must have gotten extra tack welds because they were a *****. I ended up having to drill them partially and switch between the air hammer and hammer and punch. Not fun and ran out of time before getting the fronts on.

Dude, don't you know that everyone on this forum does engine rebuilds in the driveway using $30 worth of free hand tools?
You're gonna get flame trolled HARD if you start talking about needing anything more than a screwdriver and a hammer to work on these "simple" cars.

wtf?? Dude the xj is super simple to work on. Just because you watched a couple vids that didnt hold your hand through all the steps doesnt mean it's hard to work on.

Not sure what you're talking about. You must have been extra butt-hurt. I have been on this site for 6 years and it has been nothing but great. Everyone has been friendly and I have been helped out dozens of times. I belong to many forums, in fact, this one has the least amount of ego's and BS. It's been nothing but a bunch of guys and girls helping each other out.

Though, judging by your attitude, I can't say I am surprised that you got some attitude back.

If you have a problem with the site, then just stay off it. Pretty simple. No need to come into random threads and start trashing it because YOU and only you had a problem.
