New/Rebuillt Transmission - advice needed
Howdy. Please pardon the resurrection of an old (I'm sure) thread but I haven't been on line for a while. I have a 2001 Cherokee Sport (2WD, 4.0, 5 spd m/t) that is grinding up sychros. I'm nursing it now but who knows. Currently in my SW area, there are no reputable transmission rebuilders so I'm stuck buying a rebuilt unit. I questioned an on-line rebuilder who told me I have a NV3500 according to the vin #. I've read on-line again that changing to the AX15 is a better deal but most of the ads say it's for smaller displacement 4's. I have also read that the dimensions of both the AX15 and NV3500 are identical so swapping shouldn't be a problem if the previous statement is incorrect, I need some advice as to 1) which way to go, 2) who to go to. I'd like to keep costs within reason as much as possible. Thanks to you all in advance.
