Good day to all.

I have never had any kind of Jeep or 4x4 but i would like to buy one. My budget is £3000.

Can anyone offere me advice on what i should look for?

I am interested in the Cherokee 2.5 Diesel

I also would like to know how easy are they to work on and about service issues and costs in general

Many thanks

welocome to cf.

simple, get the best one you can affored with low miles.
ask if the diesels has ever over heated as they really dont like this and it sometimes cracks the heads. expensive to replace. fuel filters can be expensive. apart from that there pretty good.

Welcome from Ontario Canada!

Shawns right. we don't see much of the diesels here even though a lot of us would like one. Apparently we just aren't as smart as you Europeans. We'll wait until petrol is $2.50 (About a pound sterling)or more per litre before we tell the manufacturers to smarten up.
If you were over here your budget would get you a rather nice '00 or '01 XJ but it would most likely have the 4.0 in it. There are 4 cyl ones out there, but are not common as we are still hung up on SIZE! LOL
I hope you find what you're looking for.
I love mine! I've had them on and off since '89 and I keep coming back.

Please don't count me in on that. For my daily driver I'd love a diesel!
I use mine as my work truck. I pull an enclosed trailer with all my tools in it. A diesel would be a dream!

You just call them Chips don't you? I had some Fish and Chips in the newspaper when I was in Bristol in 99. Damn it was cold for June. But I've never had another that tasted so good!
